JUTE is known as JUT, JUTE, BURLAP etc in various countries of the world. Some of the history of Jute manufacturing is lost in the narrow passage of time. As a plant it was believed to have been cultivated around 800BC. In these environmentally conscious times, Jute contributes lasting solutions to the universal problems of pollution. It is environment friendly as its contents are cellulose and lignin, which are biodegradable. Like most synthetic products, it does not generate toxic gases when burnt. The Jute fibre is available in inexhaustible quantities and at comparatively low prices. It also has the potential to replace several expensive fibres and scarce forest resources.

Jute goods are absolutely environmentally-friendly and free from total pollution and as such NOT harmful for health and other environmental hazards because JUTE is automatically-natural biodegradable as it perishes in the soil when, wet or soaked in water for a long period. An annual crop cultivated in the hot wet regions of north east India, mainly in Bengal (In our opinion some of the best we have seen thus far). Jute is the fibrous inner bark of a large herbaceous plant which when mature is harvested by hand and retted in water to soften it, the fibres are then removed and then sun dried.

The dried fibres are then spun into yarn mainly on machine, sometimes by hand. The yarn has a silky lustre. It comes in a variety of shades making it a very effective choice.

We combine this versatility of jute and the traditional skill of craftsmen to bring you a variety of quality hand & power woven floorcoverings, extraordinary in its naturalness and in the simplicity of its manufacturing methods.

The maximum weaving width for this product is  4 metre and the roll length can be up to 30 metre long, except the Naturá which come in 20 metre lengths, jute comes naturally Un-latexed but we would recommend a good quality machine latex backing.

North India is where many years of industrial skills in grading , processing & weaving these fibres, produce world export quality Jute carpet.

QUALITY of the Jute carpet is dictated by the type of fibres used , the weight at which it is woven & whether it is woven on a handloom or powerloom. Jute made on a POWERLOOMS is usually always superior in quality & weight to those made on SEMI-POWERED & HANDLOOMS.

Real Jute fibre can be used in most domestic and some light contract situations. It also has the advantage of being totally anti static. However, castor chair use or areas of heavy footfall do require the added protection of appropriate key mats or loose laid mats.

LATEX BACKING on Natural Floorcoverings it is a must for dimensional stability & to assist with the cleaning properties, as very fine dirt retention & filtration through to the underlay is a major part of ALL carpet degradation as it acts not unlike sandpaper once permeated. The latex backing itself stops a large majority of fine dirt filtration & because their is NO pile in real Natural Floorcoverings, thus the dirt is easily removed with a good quality beater brush type vacuum.

UNDERLAYS Play a VERY important factor in the Life of ALL carpets, as excessive underlay/product movement as well as impact abrasion is the major cause of premature wearing.

We recommend the use of a minimum 6lb Underlay (70% Jute & 30% Hair) , but their are special underlay's& installation methods at the moment that will produce a lot softer under foot felling than the heaviest traditional Hair/Jute (70% Hair & 30% Jute) Underlays, Which are usually required by these Floorcoverings (Talking in terms of LONGEVITY ), As any PROFESSIONAL should know.

These Heavy Duty Rubber or Foam underlays will cost you only a few $ per sq metre extra, that small additional cost will give you a more softer and luxurious feel. If you have any questions we suggest you contact us as their are a multitude of underlays & installations methods.

MARKETING "SECRETS": We would suggest not to waste "YOUR" precious time getting or asking a "normal" carpet installer / layer (one that installs conventional modern carpets) about any of the NATURAL FLOORCOVERINGS as most wouldn't know of each individual product characteristics & installation requirements, this is only one of the KEY areas that is most often overlooked & misunderstood by clients, I take it we have all seen the results of carpet with bubbles in them caused by, incorrect materials or/& unprofessional installation methods being used.

The choices are simple, QUALITY -v- QUANTITY, unfortunately this will be the simple difference between a Job# that, will give you long lasting satisfaction & trouble free maintenance for years to come, to You & Your Clients.

HEALTH: Jute is also a carpet that an increasing amount of people are turning to that require, a slightly softer underfoot feeling than Coir & Sisal, however this product will give you a low dust & low allergy free environment that marries up to wooden flooring & creates a natural look & underfoot feeling that gives a wonderful foot massage, but still don't expect this product to feel as soft as a conventional piled carpet as it is a twine carpet.
